At a Glance:

Springfield Armory’s XD Gear Mag Loader is useful, however limited. Let’s start with the upsides of the Springfield Mag Loader. First, it’ll reduce your reload times, which is especially useful on range days. Second, your fingertips will thank you for avoiding the stress that comes with reloading magazines by hand. Third, this mag loader is compatible with most Springfield Pistol magazines including: 9mm, .357 Sig, .40 S&W, and .45 GAP.

So, what’s the downside? While the Springfield Armory Mag Loader works great for loading their magazines, it falls short due to its inability to work with other magazines. The Springfield mag loader comes with a lot of their pistols, but it’s also available for purchase as a stand-alone item.

In my opinion, if you’re interested in purchasing Springfield’s Magazine Loader, then you’re better off spending an extra fifteen dollars for the Maglula UpLULA. The UpLULA is a universal mag loader, and it’s especially useful when loading various pistols and calibers at home or at the range.

Pros:

  • Made from a heavy duty polymer
  • Multi-Caliber Speed Loader
  • Very ergonomic finger grip on speed loader for faster magazine loading

Cons:

  • Exclusive to Springfield Armory pistols.

Final Thoughts:

Although the Springfield Armory Mag Loader works great with their pistols, it lacks the versatility of working with others. If you’re interested in a mag loader strictly for your Springfield, then this is a great option. On the other hand, if you don’t mind spending an additional fifteen dollars for a universal pistol mag loader, then the Maglula UpLULA is an even better option.
